Jesus Has Balm for All Wounds
Vintage Holy Card
We like the cleanness of this image, the direct message for us that it offers. At a time when Victorian art could be quite complicated, this image - from a turn of the century holy card - makes its point very simply. A single dove, representing you or me, our souls marked as Christian, approaches the heart of Jesus. There he drinks of the Eucharistic wine. Jesus a du baume pour toutes les blessures. In English, Jesus has balm for all wounds.
The original holy card was made by one of our all-time favorite holy card companies, Bousasse Lebel. They consistently made the most beautiful holy cards in the world, developing a style in art-rich France called the St. Sulpice style. The name came from the street they were on, which in turn got its name from St. Sulpice Church, which was on the street. Many of the holy card makers of 19th Century France worked on that street, and many copied the style which was heavily influence by the work at Bouasse Lebel.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Thanks for your interest!
Thanks!
