Jesus and Mary attend the dying Joseph in this traditional Catohlic print. Joseph died the way we all hope to -- in the arms of Jesus and Mary; Mary praying for us and Jesus blessing us. A holy death.

The Latin on the front, which is hard to read, is “Blessed are the dead who die in the Lord.” (Revelation 14:13). The angel has told John to write that down. Then, "Yes,” said the Spirit, “let them find rest from their labors, for their works accompany them.”

Joseph's tools from his work are by his bed. Notice the right angle, indicating he led a moral life.

Johann von Schraudolph (1808-1879) was a Catholic German painter who mostly did religious work. This is one of the frescoes he did for the Imperial Cathedral of Speyer, Germany. There are many more exquisitely beautiful pictures from that church, mostly in the nave.
