Christ is in the desert, praying and contemplating. He is a man of sorrows. The tone of this somber as the deserted place. The painting is a sermon unto itself, and the beauty as we consider it gives us a place to go to be with our Lord in his trials.

William Dyce (1806-1864), a Scottish painter, places Christ in the Scottish Highlands, perhaps to give the viewers something they could more easily identify with. Dyce was one of the early members of the Pre-Raphaelite movement, and he did one of our favorite Madonnas ever, the one with the baby Jesus looking at the book Mary is reading (which we expect we will carry someday).

This paining is also a meditation. It is the companion piece to one of a young David as shepherd in the Highlands, an earlier meditation of youth done by Dyce, which we also hope to offer. Circa 1860. Oil on millboard. 13.5 x 19.4 inches. Original title, "Man of Sorrows."

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", 1.6" for 11x14" pictures, or 1.75" for 13x17" , 16x20", 18x24" and 24x36". Inquire about special printing needs. Not much needs to be trimmed of the art to go to the edge on this print.

Border sizes are Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.

- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
