This Eucharist holy card is a very popular print from our shop. Sometimes people ask, "Why a pelican?" In antiquity, it was believed the pelican fed her brood with her own blood, which reminded early Christians of the Eucharist. So the pelican became a symbol for Christ.
St. Thomas Aquina wrote a famous prayer, addressing Jesus as "Pelican Pie," or in English, "Faithful Pelican," which was done in complete reverence. We have that prayer on the back, in the original Latin and in new English flavor. jk.
We love this gorgeous picture with the stylized pelican. We don’t even know the word for that kind of art style, with the glossy colors and the loopy shapes, but you see it pretty often in French and German holy cards in the 1870s, and it somehow fits in very well with contemporary aesthetics.
We have this as an art print elsewhere in our shop.
Thank you for your interest.
