The Beuron Art School invented by Benedictine monks in the mid-19th Century lasted a long time. It was uniquely beautiful, and focused on a formal calm for the viewer to make it more reverent. They did that with circles and triangles in the composition of sacred subjects. In this one, for example, the main triangle is the base of the floor mat peaking up to Mary's halo. You'll still find others in this early 20th Century version. The style is very orderly. It is one of our favorite art styles.

Our restoration of this holy card is one of our series of Christmas Holy cards. We've worked hard to provide a good variety of beautiful artwork, along with a rich variety of prayers, meditations, and scripture readings on the back. We've restored these beautiful old cards as a little way to help strengthen people's spiritual lives and make our Christmas celebrations more prayerful.
