For quite a while we've wanted to put up a good choir picture in our church's choir loft, and this finally emerged as the one we wanted. It shows a commotion of performance, from the central altar boys, to the ensemble of musicians and adult singers, with the choir director in the center, lifting his finger to mark the time. In front and above them all, the figure of Jesus Christ crucified seems to be at their head.
There are a lot of interesting details in this picture, which is otherwise kind of understated. For one thing, the bassoon player is looking right out at us. The ancient choir singer has almost let go of his music, which is slipping to the floor. Who is the fellow at the far left, and what is he doing there? This is probably during a service, or a dress rehearsal, as they all have their choir dress on. It’s a lovely picture, and like all of his pictures has a luminous intensity and vibrant colors. We like the representation of masculine piety.
Vicente Borrás Abella (1867–1945) learned art from his father, who was a fine art painter. He went on to become a professor at the School of Fine Arts of Barcelona. He painted a wide range of subjects and won numerous international awards and prizes. He has other Catholic-themed pictures we hope to offer someday. 1890. Oil on canvas. 60x78 inches. From the collection of the Prado Museum in Madrid, hanging in the Royal Palace of Riofrío. (stephenongpin.com)
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", 1.6" for 11x14" pictures, or 1.75" for 13x17" , 16x20", 18x24" and 24x36". Inquire about special printing needs. Not much needs to be trimmed of the art to go to the edge on this print.
Border sizes are Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
– Acid-free paper
– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
– Cardboard backer
– Above story of the art
– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Thanks for your interest!
