St. Dominic was preaching at San Marco in Rome. A woman went to listen to him, but after she returned home, she found her son had died. She ran back with him to the Saint, who prayed for the boy, and through his prayers, God brought the child back to life.

This is the altarpiece in the Dominican church in Dubrovnik, Croatia, which is across the Adriatic from Italy. The Dominican monastery and church were constructed in around 150 years, from about 1200 to 1350. This painting was done by the Prague artist Vlaho Bukovac, circa 1911. Bukovac (1855-1922) was a prominent painter and academic, whose work covered a wide range of genres and styles.

St. Dominic (c. 1170-1221) was born in Spain and died in Italy. He was the founder of the Order of Friars Preachers, who are usually called the Dominicans. He was called by God at a time of weakness within the Church, which also faced heresy, and along with the other huge Saint of that time, St. Francis of Assisi, helped restore piety and order to the Catholic Church. He was canonized only 13 years after his death, in 1234, because such was his holiness. (source: Britannica.com)

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a blank border all around the image of about .5" for 5x7, 1.3" for 8.5x11, 1.6" for 11x14, and 1.75" for 13x17" and 16x20". For the two poster sizes, 18x24 and 24x36, we use only 0.5" margins. The ratio of the rectangle of the painting does not match the rectangles of the paper, so these figures are all approximate! The white space gives the framed picture a finished look without using a matt.
