Jules Adolphe Aimé Louis Breton (1827-1906) was a French painter who mostly did country pictures, and his work helped preserve the beauty of rural life in his times. He was born in a small village and become one of the most famous painters in the world in the 19th Century. After winning medals at Salons and the respect of his peers, he returned to his small village and spent decades painting realistic but idealized scenes from his small-town locale.
Breton often painted Catholic scenes. This one was one of his most famous. Painted in 1857, it is called La Bénédiction des blés en Artois, or, The Blessing of the Wheat in Artois. His Catholic work tends to be serene or happy. usually with groups of the faithful. He is still famous; His paintings will fetch over a million dollars today.
We like how beautiful this one is, how the whole village is getting involved as they proceed through the fields with what looks like a Lourdes statue and the Eucharist. All Catholic processions are declarative, bringing our king into the world and proclaiming his Lord of All.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", 1.6" for 11x14" pictures, or 1.75" for 13x17" , 16x20", 18x24" and 24x36". Inquire about special printing needs. Not much needs to be trimmed of the art to go to the edge on this print.
Border sizes are Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
