Let us go up to the mountain of God! In our new favorite painting, a priest-led procession winds its way up the steep valley path to the Hermitage of San Romedio near Val di Non, Italy. For a long time, we've wanted to bring you a beautiful Catholic landscape painting, but they're kind of hard to find. There are an enormous number of beautiful landscape paintings out there, but not that many you could call Catholic. Then we saw this one, and we fell in love with it immediately.
We love Catholic art and spend many grateful hours a week exploring it. One of the things that makes this one wonderful for us is that this place really exists, and processions like this really happen there. We have a photograph of how it looks today so you can see. It is a major pilgrimage destination, with 200,000 people a year making their way up the mountain path to the complex of 3 churches and 3 chapels.
The complex was started possibly in the 8th Century and is believed to be the location where Saint Romedius withdrew to spend his life in prayer. He was a son of a noble family and gave away his extensive possessions to pursue God away from the rest of the world, way up in the Italian mountains. Legend has it, he had a bear for a companion. (sources: www.trentino.com & wikipedia) Wouldn't it be great to visit this place!
Robert Russ (1847-1922), was an Austrian painter who specialized in landscapes. Thanks go out to Vid Pogacnik, who shares his copyrighted photo of the Hermitage today under the Creative Commons Attribution-Share Alike 4.0 International license.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", 1.6" for 11x14" pictures, or 1.75" for 13x17" , 16x20", 18x24" and 24x36". Inquire about special printing needs. Not much needs to be trimmed of the art to go to the edge on this print.
Border sizes are Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Thanks for your interest!
