St. Benedict of Nursia (480-547), an early Catholic abbot, is called the founder of monastic Catholicism for his great influence, writing the rule that guided much of the monastic Middle Ages.
This image of him is from a painting at the Benedictine monastery in Monte Cassino, Italy. The prayer on the back is attributed to Benedict, and the two round things are a typical Benedictine medal. His Feast Day as honored by the Benedictine monks is March 21, the day he died in 547, or since 1970, on July 11. You of course may celebrate him any time you wish!
