Bernadette Soubirous (1844-1879) was a young French peasant girl who in 1858 had visions of a beautiful lady. When she asked for her name, the lady said "I am the Immaculate Conception." This phrase was a matter of arcane theological import at the time about the Virgin Mary, not something a barely educated peasant girl would have known. If you don't know Bernadette's story, it is a wonderful one, and she's a wonderful Saint.
This is a restoration of a holy card from Louis Turgis & Co., one of the premier holy card makes of that time. We're guessing it was made in 1888 or maybe 1898, as that would have been the 30th or 40th anniversary of the visions, and this ink-rich style of lithography was still the main way of making cards like this in those years.
We have included a Novena on the back that is prayed widely in the Catholic Church.
It's one of our favorites, a real beauty. It took us days to restore it to its original beauty. Sue had to get in and do a lot of digital painterly work with the colors, and I had to fix the damage, aging, and printing flaws.
As with this and all of our images, you may have a custom holy card made with a personalized back printed for you. See this listing for details: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1019181226/custom-holy-cards
