St. Patrick lived from around 386 to around 461 AD. He was born in Britain to a Roman family, and at age 16 he was grabbed by some Irish coastal raiders and sold into slavery in Ireland. He tended sheep there for about 6 years, and then escaped and got back to his home in Britain. He became a priest and returned to Ireland to do mission work to that pagan island. He established monasteries, churches, and schools.

He is famous for many things, some of them dipped in legend, including the long prayer, The Cry of the Deer. We have included an extract from that prayer for the back of this card. (We have the more famous excerpt on our other St. Patrick card, which features a lovely painting of Patrick by my wife Sue on the front.)

The story of the Cry of the Deer is about St. Patrick as he was looking for the site for his first stone church in Ireland. We have a vintage art print of Patrick’s carrying a fawn in our shop if you want to read the rest of the deer story.

They are both great cards for handing out on St. Patrick’s Day, so people can have a little something to go along with their green beer. A great opportunity to plant a seed for the cause of Christ. Pro tip: When you plant a seed, you don’t debate it. If you do it with kindness, people might think about it. Conversion takes time.

The auctioneer who sold this painting attributed it to an artist named Honate, of whom we could find no additional information on the net.

Available in quantities of 1000 for serious distribution. Contact us for higher quantities.
