The Holy Grail is the cup used by Christ at the Last Supper. It was fervently sought throughout the Middle Ages, as the True Cross had been earlier. It was an artifact of utmost spiritual value. For Catholics, the search for the Holy Grail means a deeply intense and personal search for God. Although many places claim to have found it, and there are many stories and legends about it, the Church has not authenticated any of them.

In the version of the story in this painting, the Grail has been found by Perceval (Parsifal). Here he is a priest, holding up the Chalice at the moment of consecration. It has turned the color of the Passion. Perceval’s white robes indicate that he is pure of heart. He can see the Spirit of God, visibly coming down from Heaven. (As can we, who are not pure of heart!) King Amfortas, the wounded Grail King in bed at the foreground, is going to be healed.

The legend is the allegory of everyone's personal search for God, and the benefits it brings to others to the degree that we succeed. This picture is good as an encouragement for anyone who is striving in the spiritual realm!

This picture was painted in 1904 by American artist Seymour Millais Stone (1877-1959). He painted hundreds of famous and powerful people in his day, such as Teddy Roosevelt, and he illustrated many books and magazines. The British called him “the new genius” and he was widely popular over there as he was in America. This painting is considered to be his most significant work. It last sold in 2005. Oil on canvas, 48 x 34 in. (source: www.askart.com)

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.

– Acid-free paper

– Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.

– Cardboard backer

– Above story of the art

– Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
