Saint Elizabeth of the Trinity
Restored Photograph

Elizabeth of the Trinity (1880-1906) was a Carmelite nun from France known for her quiet mysticism and deep devotion to God. As a little child, she was willful, given to fits of rage. But at age 14 she felt a call to be a spouse of Christ. From that time on she wanted to be in the nearby Carmel. She was admitted at age 21. She wrote in a letter, ""I can't find words to express my happiness. Here there is no longer anything but God. He is All; He suffices and we live by Him alone"

She endured great suffering with a hormonal disease. In addition, the Carmel was in a state of uncertainty. The local bishop had been removed by the Holy See because of scandal, and the convent itself was threatened with confiscation by the French government. Yet she lived in peace. "We must be mindful of how God is in us in the most intimate way and go about everything with him. Then life is never banal. Even in ordinary tasks, because you do not live for these things, you will go beyond them."

Towards the end of her life, she called herself, "Laudem Gloriae," which means "praise of glory." She said, "I think that in Heaven my mission will be to draw souls by helping them to go out of themselves in order to cling to God by a wholly simple and loving movement, and to keep them in this great silence which will allow God to communicate Himself to them and to transform them into Himself." (sources www.ncregister.com, wikipedia.com)

She left many letters which have been collected into two volumes. Feast Day: November 9. Patron against illness. We hope that this photograph helps you draw closer to her, and thus closer to Jesus.
