St. Brother Andre
Exclusive Restored Photograph

St. André Bessette (1845-1937) is a Canadian Saint who was noted for his deep devotion to St. Joseph and the Passion of Christ, and for thousands of miracles he was the vehicle for, both in his lifetime and since then.

In 1870 he was initially rejected by the Holy Cross Congregation for frail health and for being too simple. But he was soon accepted when the Archbishop weighed in. He was assigned the role of porter, which meant he stayed at the door and welcomed people at the monastery. He did that for 40 years.

During that time and after, he was inundated by requests from the sick, who crowded the Congregation and sent him letters requesting prayers, up to 80,000 a month. Many were cured, and Br. Andre always insisted he did not cure, but that St. Joseph cured.

When he died in 1937, one million people filed past his coffin. He was canonized in in 2010. A Patron Saint of the rejected and of the sick. Feast Day January 6. (source: holycrosscongregation.org)

We hope our exclusive restoration helps draw you closer to our Saint, and know him not just as an historical personage, but also as a friend.
