Walter Crane
This delightful, whimsical little piece comes from A Floral Fantasy in an Old English Garden, an 1899 book by Walter Crane, one of the top illustrators of his day. The book was described as telling of the hidden life and society of flowers. Each picture had a little poem. We like how the piece is lighthearted and yet reverent, showing the flower as an emblem of the Evangelist.
Adorable in the 5x7 size, this makes a great gift for a Catholic gardener, or anyone who would enjoy its simple charm. It is the sister piece to Bethlehem Star, across the page from each other in the same book. Note how the two little poems rhyme!
We offer both prints. They can be paired together in a little nook or on a bookshelf.
Here is the companion piece, Bethlehem Star: https://www.etsy.com/listing/1221620992/bethlehem-star-catholic-art-print
We show the cover and another one of the illustrations, the dandelion, because we find them enjoyable and thought you would too.
** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.
- Acid-free paper
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
Thanks for your interest!
Thanks!
