"The Descent of the Holy Spirt - Pentecost"
Painted by Revs. Bonaventure Ostendarp & Raphael Pfister

Beuron art (pronounced BOY ron) was developed by German Benedictine monks in the mid-19th Century to bring beautiful liturgical art to the faithful as an aid to their worship. They used an intricate series of circles and equilateral triangles intermingled to create their formal arrangements. Their idealized art is one of our absolute favorites. We love the colors, the calm, the intense organization. Catholic art, especially popular styles, can tend to maximize the sentiment of a picture. While that approach has its place, the Beuron style appeals to us as lofty and pure.

This was a mural painted around 1910 for St. Mary's Church in McKeesport, PA, by two Benedictine monks, Revs. Bonaventure Ostendarp & Raphael Pfister, one of a series that church had, all done in the Beuronese art style.

These murals were copied from a series created under the direction of the inventors of the Beuronese style, Fr. Desiderius Lenz and Revs. Gabriel Wuger and Lukas Steiner, between 1880 and 1887. The originals in Germany were lost to fire. A second set of copies exists at Abbey Church in Conception, Missouri.

** IMPORTANT ** THE IMAGE IS SMALLER THAN THE PAPER! There is a white border of about 0.5" inch for 5x7", 1.3" for 8.5x11", or 1.6" for 11x14" pictures. All Approx! Fine art printers do this because the images are almost never the same rectangular ratio of the standard paper sizes. It also gives the prints a finished look, and lets them look good in a frame without a matt.

- Acid-free fine art paper.
- Archival pigments, rated to last for generations.
- Cardboard backer
- Above story of the art
- Enclosed in a tight-fitting, crystal clear bag.
