Virgen de Guadalupe Ornament
Virgen de Guadalupe Ornament
In 1530, Mary appeared and spoke with Blessed Juan Diego, a poor peasant of Mexico. She asked that a church be built in her honor. As a sign that she was from heaven, she imprinted her image as she appeared to him on his cloak, which survives to this day. She is shown as an Indian girl, with Child. Soon after the church was built, human sacrifice came to an end there. She is the patroness of the unborn and patroness of the Americas.
I painted this picture on paper in acrylics and colored pencil.
This intriguing, devotional ornament is made with two tiny prints of the same image, back to back. The glass is hand cut and soldered with lead-free solder. Part of the charm of handmade items is the slight variation from piece to piece. These are not made in a factory!
All my soldered ornaments are made with lead free solder and glass. The same picture is on both sides!
If you put the ornament on a key chain, it may get broken if not treated kindly. It is glass. If you want one for a key chain, I can custom make your medium charm/medal with a thicker glass for $3. Small charm/medals don't need thicker glass, but either way, they need to be on a chain before you add them to your key ring.
This image also available as a fine art print.
